Q. When have you used the In-Exsufflator for the first time?

In September of the last year (1999) after a respiratory insufficiency failure due to mucus and while I was in an expert Centre for a check up. I had a bad bronchipneumonia in March that never resolved and that left me with stacking secretions in the windpipe. This condition was uncomfortable and I suffered from episodes of inhalation. I was scared when everything got wrong: pressure, oxygen saturation, tachycardia, impossibility to breathe.

Q. What is the sensation in using the device?

When I started using the In-Exsufflator I had, for few seconds, the bad impression to go out of air when the device makes "expirations". But since I usually get used to new situations quickly, this discomfort was soon over. When the mucus comes out I immediately feel better and I get over things.

Q. Is it troublesome?

No, if you get used to it you accept it and, believe me, I do need it!

Q. How long did it take to your mom to learn how to use the In-Exsufflator?

Mom has learnt to use the device in a very short time after the training received in the expert Centre. My brother in law has learnt, too, but I always call mom.

Q. Do you use the ventilator at night?

I have been using the ventilator for four years and my nose has something to tell about it! I remember that before starting ventilation I felt always tired. Now it is much better.

Q. Is it true that you could not stay without the In-Exsufflator?

No, it isn't. For two weeks after the first try I have been using the device regularly twice a day for half an hour as I have been told by the doctor. And I can say that the first days have been hard but afterwards much depends on the mucus you have. This week, for instance, I have used it only when needed and especially in the morning because I felt obstruction in the airways. As mucus goes, I become "free".

I personally feel safe having the device at home and up to me all persons like me should have one of his own.
